Back in 2014, WhatsApp silently introduced blue ticks(aka read receipts) which allowed users to see when a message is read.Pretty much like the version of “seen” in Facebook. As you can imagine, stalkers celebrated for days, whereas private people we’re disappointed by this decision. To keep everyone happy, WhatsApp released an update which allows disable this feature, so that’s what this post is all about.
Steps on Disabling Blue Ticks for Read Messages in WhatsApp
1 Open WhatsApp and select the three-dot icon in the top-right section of the screen and choose Settings
2. Go to Account>Privacy and scroll down until you see the Read Receipts setting
3. Uncheck Read receipts
Keep in mind that this feature, unfortunately, doesn’t apply to group messages and will let group members know when you’ve read a message. Also, once you disable blue checks marks you won’t be able to see when a person has read your message as well.
